Coaching can sure use some kicks

It's no shame to take the field goal. Three teams got greedy in the final seconds and none won.

In the NFL, the St. Louis Rams and New York Giants opted to call pass plays instead of a running the ball and both teams turned the ball over.

The Rams could have forced overtime with a chip-shot field. The Giants were only two points down to Houston and all set for a game-winning field goal. Not to be.

In college football, Michigan was 30 yards away with just over two minutes left in a five-point game and went pass happy. Ohio State intercepted and is going to the Fiesta Bowl.

But the worst decision occurred in the Detroit-Chicago NFL game when Lions coach Marty Morninhweg decided to give the ball to the Bears in overtime despite winning the coin toss. Chicago drove down the field and booted the game-winning field goal.

That bonehead decision will probably cost Morninhweg his job.
