Home sizzles in December

Dec 17, 2002 7:26 AM

Home teams were 9-6 Sunday. It wasn't like I didn't warn you. Two weeks ago I said the home teams would make their move sometime in December. The dogs were badly beaten for the second consecutive week, going 12-19 ATS over that stretch.

Dolphins (-3½) over VIKINGS: Jay Fiedler has returned! Ricky Williams is leaner and more elusive than ever. Fish have not been a great road team all season but it's time they stepped up the road efforts.

49ers (-7) over CARDS: Cards have battled last two weeks, won one by a field goal and lost last one by two points. Last home game of year.    But I can't pull the rubber band off the bankroll for Jake and the boys. Garcia gets the nod here. Niners should be nasty after Packer loss.

Eagles (-6½) over COWBOYS: Hutchinson hasn't seen a defense this nasty yet. Philly possessed since the $6 million man went down.

Bills (+7) over PACKERS: Green Bay still playing for home field advantage, which is huge in winter wonderland. But Pack coming off emotional road game in San Francisco. Bledsoe has the offensive weaponry to hang with Favre.

Lions (+11½) over FALCONS: Atlanta hadn't lost in eight weeks. All of a sudden they've dropped two straight. Vick is due for a biggie-size performance.  Lions usually find a way to lose, but not by more than 10.

PANTHERS (-3) over Bears: Panthers have won twice in last three contests. I think Bears dug down deep for one last all-out assault at home versus Jets. Chandler in winter of his career. Beware of a young hungry Panthers in final home game.

BENGALS (+7) over Saints: Saints D difficult to find. Bengals D never existed. Dick Lebeau's time in Cincy is running out fast. Players need final rally for their main man!

Giants (+5½) over Colts: Colts forged impressive comeback over Browns on road and are 5-1 SU in last six games. Can't bet against Fassel's impressive December win totals. The talent pool on both sides of the field is fairly even.

Titans (-5) over JAGS: Titans managed a nine-point victory in Week 6 at home. I'm looking for about the same margin on the road. McNair has been super, leading Tennessee a 7-1 run prior to Monday's game with New England.

CHIEFS (PK) over Chargers: San Diego's offense has sputtered since these two met in Week 6. Chiefs lost by a single digit. Another close game here but K.C. grabs the win in home finale.

Texans (+6) over SKINS: Dom Capers' defense keeps the expansion team in all their games. Might just grab their fifth win right here. David Carr overdue for a big game. Skins will look past Texans as they dream about scalping the Cowboys in their home finale!

Rams (+4) over SEAHAWKS: Marc Bulger is the new main attraction in St. Louis. The Rams don't lose with the scarecrow taking the snaps.

Broncos (+4½) over RAIDERS: About six weeks ago the Raiders made it look easy, 34-10. Raiders are overrated in this contest. Denver's defense not as good as Miami D. But Shanahan should have learned something from the way Dolphins handled Gannon.

Browns (+3) over RAVENS: Ravens finding ways to win with defense and special teams. Only managed 4-point win over Texans. Browns bring more offense to the game than Ravens' recent opponents.

Jets (+4) over PATS: Pats trashed Jets in Week 2, 44-7. Jets a much improved team since move to Chad Pennington. This week, Pennington won't let the Jets quit.

BUCS (-4) over Steelers: Bucs will find a way to win. First tough test for Steelers in over a month. Nearly get the feeling that this is too many points. Then you realize Bucs hammered Falcons two weeks ago, 34-10.

Last week: 4-11

Season: 110-104-9

Best Bets: Broncos, Texans, Panthers.
