There are four kinds of excellent player opportunities in baccarat: winning streaks, repetitive patterns, repetitive tie patterns and consecutive ties. They provide skilled baccarat players with their greatest profits. Skilled players do not make a bet, or keep their bets quite small, until one of these opportunities comes along. This week, we’ll look at the first kind: winning streaks.
Let’s say that the player has won the last three decisions. What would you bet on, the player or the bank? If you said the bank, you would be wrong! Bet on the player, because the player is having the winning streak. The player could be the outcome for the next decision or the next 10 decisions. The bank could also be the outcome of the next decision. But given the trend, the risk is greater betting on the bank. Lesson learned: never bet against a winning streak. “Go with the flow” is the golden rule of baccarat.
Therefore, look for trends and patterns in the outcomes of the decisions and bet on them to continue. The four kinds of outcomes above are the best opportunities in the game. If you choose not to bet with the trend, then don’t bet against it, either; just don’t bet.
But betting against winning streaks is the most common mistake, and the most serious, made by many of the baccarat players that I see. Recently I played one shoe where the player hand won the first nine decisions; I won them all. Every other player at the table bet against the player at least once during this run. One player even bet against it seven straight times. After each loss he raised his bet, apparently thinking the next hand would be the bank and he could recoup all of his previous losses. Big mistake! He left the table broke after just nine hands. Sound familiar? Have you seen it before? Believe it or not, this is a fairly common scenario.
Winning streaks offer some of the best opportunities a player can get. Even if some of these streaks seem to defy the laws of probability, you must always bet with them or not at all. I have seen the bank win 19 consecutive decision and the player nearly as many. Winning streaks of six to 10 straight decisions are quite common. Betting on streaks will ensure that you will never be on the wrong side of any winning streak. There will be times when the expected trend or pattern does not materialize. But there will also be times, probably many more times, when the expected trend or pattern continues or repeats, and this is a huge advantage for the player. You may not win a lot of money, but you will never go broke either.
Remember, trends, like horses, are easier to ride in the direction they are already going.
