Santa Anita

Race 1: A 2yo filly ran away and set a new track record for 2f. That took care of our exacta, trifecta and Pick 3.

Race 3: We had the winner, but could not get the second horse as we got split.

Race 4: We hit the exacta and trifecta, but the payoff was nothing to brag about as the favorite won.

Race 5: We could only muster a show.

Race 6: Another show as the day turned sour.

Race 7: We ran second and third.

Race 8: We did run first and second as jockey Sutherland took her horse wire to wire on the grass as advertised. However, we were dead going into the race.

Bay Meadows

It looked like we were going to sweep the card. Turned out we lost the last race when we just could not run down the Baze horse. It was just another second so it’s on to today.

Santa Anita

Race 1:

We will play the early double. This looks like a two horse race and the second could offer some value. We will use (3) Boowoogeemalia, who ran super in her last going 1 1/16. She is now shortening up to 7f, a distance that will be perfect for her running style. (6) Spellbinding could be a little price as the Larry the Legend offspring will like the longer distance in her second start and the blinkers go on. Play 3-6

Race 2:

I will go with the three horses that exit the same affair. (3) Norway House gets a huge jockey upgrade going from Cedeno to M Baze. (8) Mananan McLir always puts in his late run. (10) Can’t Stop Slew is the speed of the speed. Play: 3-8-10

$5 doubles on 3-6 and 3-8-10 ($30 total cost)

Race 5:

We will continue playing the rolling doubles and use (2) Sea of Pleasure, who ran huge on the layout back in January but failed when trying turf in the Baldwin. He is now back at his best surface and distance. Play: 2

Race 6:

(10) Sanquine looks like the absolute nuts in this race. He has a perfect post, which will enable Corey Nakatani to sit and pounce. Should win for fun unless one of the first-time starters is a monster or the Irish shipper (9) Magna Cum Laude fires a big shot in initial USA run. I will use both in the double and make an extra double with #10.

Play: 9-10 $5 doubles ($10 total) and 10 for $10 double total bet in the double ($20 total)

Race 8:

This one could offer a good payoff so we will play exactas, trifectas and a dime super. (9) Gweebarra looks like she could be sitting on a good one and is 5-1 on the morning line. We will use him first and second with (2) Battle Won who won on this course one race back. (7) Congo King ran behind the top pick in his last race and also won on this course last outing. (8) Hurry Home Warren is the speed and gets Nakatani up. Corey took this guy wire to wire on this course last March almost a year to the day. Lighting may strike again. (13) Kruger Park draws in from the also list and gets a great post. Migliore got to know him in last start, which he lost by a head to Mast Trac, who ran second in the feature on Friday.

Plays: 9 with 2-7-8-13 $2.00 exacta key box ($16).

9 with 2-7-8-13 $1.00 tri key ($12)

2-7-8-13 with 9 with 2-7-8-13 $1.00 tri ($12)

2-7-8-9-13 ten cent super box = ($12)

13 with 2-7-8-9-12 $2 savor exacta ($10)

Bay Meadows

Race 8

The Hillsborough Handicap

As chalky as the Bay has been, this looks like a race we can sink our teeth into. (1) North Beach gets a great post for this flat mile on the grass and has won three out of four at the distance. He is also 2-of-3 with a second at the Bay. (8) Unspoken Word ships in from Santa Anita for big Jerry and gets the mussel in the irons hoping to go wire to wire. (12) Wild Promises is 2-for-2 on this course with three wins and a third at the distance. She will be close up with the outside post her only drawback.

Plays: 1-8-10 $5.00 exacta box ($30)

1-8-10 $2.00 trifecta box ($12)

GULFSTREAM PARK

The Florida Derby

Race 10

This should be exciting. Several could jump up and run big. The top guy is (8) Elysium Fields, who has run two big races over the track. In his last start he fnished second by half a length to Cool Cool Man, who got the jump on him in the stretch. Jockey Coa fits this one like a glove.

The big hype is (12) Big Brown trained by R Dutrow, who has some big guns running in Dubai today. By staying home for this race, he must think there’s a big chance here. But, that was before he drew post position 12, a death sentence at this track for this distance. If he can win or run second from this post, you will see him in Kentucky. Kent Desormeaux has said riding this guy is like a dream. Like you’re not even moving, he has such great action.

Fierce Wind gets the best of the draw and blitzed this course at this distance going wire to wire back in January. He then won the Sam Davis at Tampa Bay stalking the pace en route to finishing second in that race. Big Truck came back and beat War Pass in the Tampa Bay Derby.

Smooth Air finished a length behind Fierce Wind in the Sam Davis and he won his only race on this course in the slop going 7f beating Halo Najib. He has never been out of the money in six lifetime starts. A 12-1 on the morning line he is a must use.

Plays: 1-2-8-12 box $1.00 trifecta ($24)

8 with 1-2-12, $5.00 exacta key ($15)

1-2-12 with 8, $5.00 exacta key ($15)

8-12 with 8-12 with all, $1 trifecta ($20).

NOTE: Don’t forget to check for late scratches and adjust your betting.
