Free shows in Las Vegas! As Martha Stewart might say, "It’s a good thing!" The Tropicana Resort & Casino introduces a new free bird show, "The Tropicana Bird Show starring Tiana Carroll." The show takes place three times daily (except Thursdays) in the Tropics Lounge at 11 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 2 p.m.

Bird trainer, Tiana Carroll shows off her talented-feathered friends as they perform. Mariah, a Green-Winged Macaw, is the class clown (or funny fowl) who follows Tiana around during her 20-minute show. Mango, a Moluccan Cockatoo, talks, rides a motorbike, and roller blades. A Yellow-Nape Amazon, Dorothy, sings a duet with Meko, a Congo-African Grey Parrot, of "How Much is That Doggie in the Window." During the new Tropicana Bird Show, audience members are encouraged to participate as part of the "party section."

These people are asked to cheer the winged creatures as they perform. At the end of the show, the loudest person receives a picture with Tiana and Mariah. "The Tropicana Bird Show starring Tiana Carroll" is free and open to all ages. Take the kids! For more information, call 702-739-2222.

Another "good thing" would be the free video poker classes taught at the Fiesta Rancho, which have now been extended through March 12. Every Wednesday, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., expert, Bob Dancer teaches instructional classes for beginners as well as advanced players on applying the best mathematical holds for the hands you are dealt. Each week

a different video poker game is taught, and questions are encouraged. This Wednesday’s class, January 29, the game discussion will be on a version of Deuces Wild, known as NSU, which stands for "Not So Ugly." Next week’s class (February 5) will be about a local’s favorite game called Double, Double Bonus. Players who attend also receive a free "Gambler’s Bonus" coupon package.

Last week we reported the demise of the Castaways buffet, but better news surfaces this week! The Castaways Pelican Rock Café (coffee shop) takes over serving a mini Express Bar breakfast daily from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. for $2.95 and a Lunch Express for only $3.95. Burger lovers will also find a tempting new special consisting of 1/3 lb Hamburger and Fries for only $1.50. Special serving hours for the burger deal are daily from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and again from midnight to 6:00 a.m.

Mark your calendar for Monday, February 17. The Palms will be offering half-price buffets all day in honor of President’s Day. You must be a Club Palms member. It is free to join Club Palms.

Until next time, "Eat well, play well, stay well!"
