Ballys kicks off Derby future book challenge

Jan 28, 2003 6:18 AM

Following in the hoof steps of its successful Breeders Cup Challenge, Bally’s Las Vegas this week launches The Kentucky Derby Future Book Challenge.

Players can enter online at any time through April 22. Prizes will be awarded to the top 50 finishers, with the top five place-getters winning accommodations and invitations for two to Bally’s/Paris 2003 Breeders’ Cup VIP Party.

The Challenge is fun, easy, and a test of each Player’s Future Book handicapping skills, and best of all it’s free.

Between January 30 and April 22, contestants can build a "fantasy" Kentucky Derby Stable of up to 24 runners based on "locking in" odds from the Kentucky Derby Book posted weekly by Bally’s Las Vegas. Between April 23-29, players must then reduce the stable to four horses, which then becomes the players "Final Four" stable for the 2003 Bally’s/Paris Kentucky Derby Future Book Challenge.

Points will be awarded by using a multiplier for each place of finish of each horse with the locked in odds (ie: 10x for 1st, 7x for 2nd, and so on). The Player who amasses the most total points with his or her Final Four finishes in the 2003 Kentucky Derby, wins the Challenge.

Prizes include invitations for two with accommodations for the 2003 Breeders’ Cup Party at Bally’s in Las Vegas, branded merchandise, signed memorabilia and more!

In addition to the Breeders’ Cup VIP Party package at Bally’s, merchandise will be awarded to the top 50 finishers in the Challenge.

Besides the Breeders’ Cup VIP Party Package, each of the top five finishers will earn Bally’s/Paris Turf Club Player Points that can be used on rooms, dinners, shows and more at Bally’s or Paris Hotels. Prize points include 5,000 for 1st place, ranging down to 1,000 for 5th place!

In addition to hot and heavy future book action, each week the Challenge will feature the Track Experts forum with handicappers Steve Fierro and Lauren Stich, who will post their "fantasy stables" online so players can see what the experts are playing before making their selections.

Moreover, Between April 30 and midnight May 2, a contestant may select a Track Expert to play head-to-head on the Kentucky Derby and win additional prizes (which include a "special horseplayer casino rate" for up to three nights at Bally’s or Paris Las Vegas, plus a tee-shirt with "I Whipped The Expert!").

Sign-ups begin Thursday, and the more horses players choose from the higher the odds, the better chance they have of winning big. In this competition, big odds are the key to winning.
