Singer Bobby Rydell, who rose to "teen idol" status four decades ago, will perform at the Suncoast Showroom this Friday through Sunday.
Show time is at 7:30 p.m. Ticket prices start at $39.95 and go up to $44.95.
Rydell has been called one of the most popular teen idols of the early 1960’s. With his boyishly handsome looks, pompadour hairstyle and ever-present smile, he epitomized the clean-cut All-American boy come to life.
Rydell’s act is fast-paced, filled with family stories, comedy and soulful music. Rydell performs songs from his classic motion picture, Bye Bye Birdie as well as favorites such as "I Take My Sugar to Tea" and "Walking My Baby Back Home."
He also includes a tribute to fellow teen idol Bobby Darwin by performing "Dream Lover" and "Splish Splash."
Billboard lists Rydell as earning 34 Top 40 hits, making him one of the top five artists of his era.
In addition, he has been inducted into Philadelphia’s prestigious Walk of Fame and has had the street he grew up on renamed "Bobby Rydell Boulevard."
Comedian Steve Rossi is the opening act.
Rossi was formerly in the comedy duo, "Allen and Rossi," which produced 16 comedy albums. Rossi himself has been inducted into the Show-Biz Legends Hall of Fame and recently celebrated more than 50 years in show business.
