Saber on last week's top races

Feb 25, 2003 6:01 AM

Not much went on this past week. Just a few things to note. All the rage at this time is for Badge of Silver who absolutely freaked in the Risen Star Stakes at the Fairgrounds last week.

Trained by Ronny Werner, known for his ability to pop with 2-year-olds at first asking, we just can’t wait to see where he will surface in next. Hope it’s the Florida Derby against the likes of another speed merchant Trust N Luck and highly regarded Empire Maker out of the Bobby Frankel stable.

Frankel will be adding blinkers for EM’s next start in hopes that they will keep him focused, I think the blinkers will and you may even catch a price this time. Mr. Frankel’s other top horse, Peace Rules, was supposed to go in the San Rafael Stakes on March 1 but Bobby didn’t like the weight assignments. Frankel will leave town for another spot, but don’t know what that will be. Must follow this guy.

Bob Baffert’s top horse, Kafwain, looks to be headed to the Louisiana Derby and possible showdown with the Badge. That would make for a nice race.
