pot on payday

As if payday weren’t already sweet enough, several casinos reward customers who cash paychecks onsite with cash, comps and prizes.

For gamblers, Joker’s Wild casino in Henderson is a good bet. Every time you cash your paycheck, you get a $.50 credit toward a keno ticket with a $1 million jackpot. You also get a free drink ticket and a coupon for a 100-coin bonus if you hit four-of-a-kind between 5 and 10 on a video poker machine.

Jerry’s Nugget in North Las Vegas has a great deal too. Cash a paycheck and receive a token for a special slot machine where you can win a cool $1 million.

Another good bet for gamblers is any of the Coast casinos ”” Barbary Coast, Gold Coast, Suncoast and The Orleans ”” where paycheck cashers are automatically entered into a $250,000 cash drawing. Terrible’s Casino also offers the chance to win $250,000.

Or gamblers can take their checks to Castaways, where a cashed check earns a coupon good for doubling any jackpot hit on any slot machine and a $5 match for table play.

Almost all casinos that cash payroll checks offer free drink tickets in addition to these other incentives. Others, like the Silverton, offer a paycheck coupon for a free drink and a foot-long hot dog.

At The Rampart and Cannery Casinos, customers get a scratch card. Losing cards are good for a free drink and winning cards can be traded in for a hat or tee shirt.

Getting these freebies is easy, but takes a little planning.

Most casinos require you to be a member of their slot club to receive rewards. These clubs are free to join.

Not all casinos cash paychecks. Hardly any Strip or downtown casinos cash checks and none of them offer any freebies. Your best bet is the locals’ casinos, the further away from the Strip the better. Locals’ casinos cash paychecks but the company listed on the check has to be in their computers first. To find out if a casino will cash a paycheck, call and ask to speak with the casino cage.

When going to cash a check, bring two valid forms of photo ID. Also make sure the address on the ID is the same as the address on the paycheck.

Both Fiesta Rancho and Arizona Charlie’s West offer opportunities to win $10,000 and other prizes.

Party animals will appreciate The Orleans’ Paycheck Party Hour, held every Friday from 5-9 p.m. in the Bourbon Street Cabaret. Everyone receives one free ticket for cash drawings and prizes. Live music is provided by local musicians Claudine Castro or Latin Vida. Buy-one-get-one-free Coors Light and Tecate drink specials and Happy Hour Finger Foods are available as well.

There are even rewards for more timid gamblers.

Many casinos offer a free spin on specially designed paycheck roulette-style wheels or slot machines, where every spin or pull earns a prize. Prizes range from free drinks and food comps to up to $25,000 cash prizes at Sunset Station, Texas Station, Barbary Coast and Sante Fe.
