Venetian’s Smock adds Macao responsibilities

The Venetian Resort-Hotel-Casino has tapped Thomas Smock to oversee all phases of in-house counsel duties for the company’s development in Macao, China.

Smock, who assumes the title of senior vice president- general counsel, has been with the company since May 2000. In his capacity of vice president-general counsel, he advised senior executives and upper management on the day-to-day business law matters.

Gina Polovina has been promoted to vice president of government and community affairs for Boyd Gaming Corporation (BYD). She previously was director of government and community affairs.

Before joining Boyd Gaming in 1994, Polovina was a political campaign consultant for Joyce Advertising.

Mandalay Resort Group (MBG) has named Tracy Austin to the newly created position of chief information officer. She previously was vice president of information technology development at Harrah’s Entertainment Inc. (HET).

Veteran gaming executive Richard M. Haddrill has been elected a member of the board of directors of Alliance Gaming Corp. (AGI). He currently serves as president and CEO of Manhattan Associates, Inc. of Atlanta, Ga. During the early 1990’s, Haddrill was president and CEO of Powerhouse Technologies, a gaming device manufacturer that eventually became part of the International Game Technology (IGT) group.

Frank Zanzucci, executive director of the New Jersey Racing Commission, has been elected chairman of the Association of Racing Commissioners International.

David Michels has been named chief executive officer of the Hilton Group, the giant hotel and gaming company in England. He succeeds Anthony Harris who died recently.
