Robby joining Indy

NASCAR Winston Cup driver Robby Gordon has stepped up to accept Michael Andretti’s offer to drive one of his cars in next month’s Indy 500.

"Winning the 500 is a lifelong dream," said Gordon. "That’s why I have to thank Richard (Childress) and Cingular for supporting my decision."

The agreement unites Gordon with Michael Andretti, formerly a bitter foe in Indy cars.

"I think it will be a lot of fun, (but) with the rivalry Michael and I had in Indy cars it proves that all that matters is performance on the race track," Gordon said. "He recognizes when a guy can win a race and I tip my hat to Michael for that.

Gordon joins Las Vegan Jimmy Vasser, who was given a ride for the Indy 500 by Bobby Rahal. Currently, Vasser and Gordon are part of the "Field" bet at 7-1.
