Now that Palace Station has completed a renovation of its race book, it is inviting everyone for an unveiling and welcome party.

On Saturday, Palace Station will give away free T-shirts and hot dogs to everyone who places a race wager.

"We look forward to meeting some new friends and giving away the all-new Palace Race Book shirts," said Micah Roberts, race and sports director at Palace Station. "Everyone that comes in will be a VIP, and we’re going to treat everyone under that premise."

Roberts said the race book has been upgraded with 88 TV monitors for private viewing of the races, as well as 24 new wall-size plasma screens, and other creature comforts.

"The race book is still distant from the casino and has that old school feel to it, like a race room should," Roberts said.

In addition to the free giveaways, Station will hold several handicapping seminars for players, and will conduct a new pari-mutuel based handicapping tournament in October.

The handicapping seminars will take place on selected Thursdays: Aug. 28, Sept. 4, Oct. 2 and 16, Nov. 6 and 20 and Dec. 11.

Moderating will be local newspaper handicappers and other experts, who will offer their picks of the day and advise on the Daily Pick Six.

In addition, Station will stage a pari-mutuel based handicapping tournament for up to 300 players, Oct. 16-18, the week before the Breeder’s Cup.

The tournament entry is $250, and players must supply a $500 bankroll that will be used to determine their pari-mutuel scores. Of course, players will keep all the money they win with their bankroll.
