The NFL football betting season got under way this past weekend in Nevada sports books, and so did GamingToday’s parallel coverage of "News You Can Bet On."

"Sunday was just a great day in the sports book," said Eric St. Clair, sports director at Rampart and Cannery casinos. "Crowds were boisterous, as you would expect, and our handle was up over last season’s opening weekend."

That seemed to be the consensus among sports shop directors around town. Micah Roberts (Palace Station) said crowds and betting action were "awesome," and Chuck Esposito (Caesars Palace) reported a "great day for the house."

For its part, GamingToday began its coverage of the football betting season in full stride.

Topping the list of GT exclusives is its annual Bookies Battle the PointspreadTM contest, in which 72 Nevada casino sports directors or "bookmakers" pick the pointspread winner of every NFL game
