Carol, time sure does fly by fast when you are having fun, and poker is fun and poker tournaments are more fun.
I just had a birthday last week and I am happy to tell the folks that I was 3 times 21 plus a baker’s dozen but it just seems like yesterday when I was fishing with my dad and riding my bike on my paper route.
Time just keeps racing by.
When the folks are reading this column, Carol, we will be about 36,000 feet up in the air on our way to The Grand Casino in Tunica, Mississippi to host "The Seniors" XII World Championship of Poker.
Honey, has it really been that long? It just seems like last week when we were on our way down to Oceanside, California to our good friend Len Miller’s Oceanside Card Casino to host the inaugural "The Seniors" World Championship of Poker.
We had a great time there with Len in those early years.
Then it was on to Crystal Park Hotel and Casino in Los Angeles where with the help of co-curators (Carol Ann, Ive Chu, Leo Chu and myself), we created "The Seniors" WCOP museum which is still alive and well in the lobby of the Crystal Park Hotel.
All poker players are invited to submit items for display in the poker museum; just contact "The Seniors" at [email protected] and you will receive a reply that will explain how you can display a poker artifact in "The Seniors" WCOP museum.
"The Seniors" moved on to different hotels and casinos over the past few years. "The Seniors" WCOP has held events in the following venues: Hollywood Park, Fort McDowell, Queen Elizabeth II and other cruise ships, River Palms, Palace Station, The Orleans, The Horseshoe at the World Series of Poker, The Four Queens and Foxwoods.
"The Seniors" hosted six different events this year and has found time to include Paris, France and Sidney Australia on its schedule of events for 2004.
All casinos and card rooms are invited if they wish to host a "The Seniors" WCOP charity and/or poker event to contact us at the above email.
Today, Carol and I are on our way to Tunica Mississippi where on October 9-18 we will be hosting "The Seniors" XII World Championship of Poker at the Grand Hotel and Casino in Tunica.
Dale Carden, the card room manager called and invited us to come and said that he had heard of my love of fishing and promised to take me cat fishing if we could come to the Grand this month.
I will remember dad when I catch a big one.
So, if you are a little late in reading this week’s GamingToday, I will be catching a very large catfish about the time you are reading this column.
”˜Oklahoma Johnny’ Poker Tip of the Week
Playing poker is a lot like fishing: Some days when you fish, you do not have much luck, so you change things and you try again.
It’s the fishing that’s important, not the catching of fish.
Some days when you play poker, you may not have much luck so you change things and you try again. It’s the playing of poker that is important, not the winning.
So always remember you may catch a fish or win a hand of poker if you stay lucky!
