A tasty bite of Chicago!

Nov 11, 2003 3:25 AM

Whenever it’s time to refuel, day or night, a great spot for food and fun is Brando’s Grill & Bar in Green Valley (Sunset Road and Green Valley Parkway).

Located in the Albertson’s shopping center, Brando’s has all the trappings of a neighborhood pub, sports bar or pizzeria. At virtually every time of the day or night, you’ll find patrons enjoying the friendly ambiance and full bar.

The dining room, which is isolated from the always-humming lounge with a partition, features booth and table seating, ceiling fans and artwork created by the restaurant’s chef, Roy.

The lounge features a full bar and video gaming, which have become popular with the after-hours crowd. And there are frequent contests and giveaways which award valuable prizes. Most recently, Brando’s will give away a 42-inch big screen TV.

Most important to hungry diners, the full kitchen is manned by an experienced and accomplished chef who prepares delicious food, in generous portions and at bargain prices.

"Our family was in the restaurant business in Chicago," says Anthony Brandonisio, who along with his brother Nick opened the restaurant and lounge a few months ago. "We brought many of the specialties with us."

Among the popular specialties are Chicago-style (deep dish) pizza and an Italian Philly cheese steak sandwich.

The latter is made with red peppers, mushrooms and Mozzarella cheese, piled onto the standard steak sandwich. For those who prefer fowl, there’s also a Philly chicken cheese steak.

Another house favorite is the lemon chicken, a tender chicken breast sautéed with broccoli, mushrooms and artichoke hearts in a tasty white sauce.

Other popular entrees include linguine with clam sauce, meat and cheese raviolis and fettucini al Fredo.

With a breakfast, lunch and dinner menu that’s served around the clock, customers can also choose from deep dish or thin crust pizzas, hot and cold sandwiches, an assortment of burgers, soup and salads and comfort food appetizers such as fried calamari, steamed clams, Mozzarella sticks, chicken wings and the like.

Breakfast lovers can choose from a complete menu of traditional offerings such as omelets, steak and eggs, French toast, pancakes and biscuits and gravy.

There is also an innovative breakfast pizza topped with any and all of your favorite breakfast treats — ham, bacon, eggs, etc.

Another interesting variation to the traditional pizza is Brando’s "square pizza." Incidentally, the pizzas at Brando’s are superb, whether you opt for the thin crust or deep dish. They’re ladled with thick layers of fresh tomatoes and sauce, plus all of your favorite toppings.

Finally, you can wine and dine at Brando’s for practically nothing. Pizzas range from $5.95 to $10.50 plus $1 per topping, sandwiches are in the $6 to $7 category while full-blown dinners are priced from $7.95 to $10.95.

At those prices, Brando’s has become popular with families as well as the late-arriving singles crowd.
