Mel Thomas, a former executive vice president and general manager of Caesars Tahoe in Nevada, has been appointed general manager of the Hollywood Casino Shreveport in Louisiana.
The property, a wholly-owned indirect subsidiary of Penn National Gaming Inc., is in default of debt requirements and is in the process of renegotiating the debt payments with its noteholders, according to a company statement.
Thomas has held executive positions with casinos from Nevada to Nova Scotia during this 30-year career. In addition to the Caesars Tahoe experience, he has been involved with both Harrah’s Hotel Casino and Harveys Resort Hotel/Casino in northern Nevada; Sheraton Casinos in Tunica, Miss., the Sheraton Casinos in Nova Scotia, and the Hyatt Casino in Black Hawk, Colo.
He also has provided consulting services to a number of Native American casinos.
At Shuffle Master Inc. (SHFL), Paul C. Meyer has taken over as president succeeding Dr. Mark Yoseloff who has retained the titles of chairman and CEO.
Meyer most recently was president of Integrated Solutions of Concurrent Computer Corp. He also has held senior positions with Virgin Interactive Entertainment and New Media divisions of Viacom and Playnet Technologies.
Changes in the board of directors of the Sands Regent (SNDS) have been announced. Board Chairman Katherene Latham and Member Peter Cladianos Jr., have retired.
Named the new chairman was Jon N. Bengtson, a member of the board since 1984. He currently is chairman of Radica Games Limited.
Elected to the board was Douglas M. Hayes, who has headed Hayes Capital Corporation of Los Angeles since 1997.
