Pittsburgh Pirates at Los Angeles Dodgers (-174, 8½u): The Dodgers send Hideki Kuroda (1-1, 2.13 ERA) to the hill in Los Angeles tonight against the Pirates’ Zach Duke (0-0, 2.13) who has allowed just three earned runs in his first two starts of 2008. Last season the Dodgers went 5-2 against Pittsburgh including 2-1 at Dodger Stadium and have a pretty good track record of winning season series’ against the Bucs.
Pittsburgh is off to a somewhat respectable start (6-6) and has won three straight now after rocking Reds’ phenom Cueto (5 runs, 5 hits) on Sunday. After playing three straight unders at Chavez Ravine, the Dodgers were involved in back-to-back 12 run games against San Diego despite the stellar starting pitching matchups (Peavy-Penny, Young-Lowe).
Despite all the fireworks over the weekend, expect a low-scoring pitcher’s duel in this one as the Pirates will want to win their fourth straight and quite simply, the Dodgers won’t want to lose to the lowly Pirates who had to take a plane Sunday night from the Steel City to Lalaland to start this West coast road trip. UNDER 8½, DODGERS.
