Not everyone can mix
horses with Rams

Dec 9, 2003 6:05 AM

We here at GamingToday have already started searching for our Kentucky Derby horse.

Last year we came up short with Peace Rules at 175-1 in the future book, but at least the horse provided a lot of excitement down the stretch. We will keep you posted on some horses that offer decent future book prices in case you want to lay down $10 or $20 on a 100-1 or 200-1 shot.

The Bobs (Baffert and Frankel) are at it again, having made private purchases this past month. Baffert bought a 2-year-old named Misty’s Goldentouch, who he likes a lot. Misty’s Goldentouch has already worked at Hollywood Park and is 300-1 in the future book. Could be worth of fiver.

Frankel went to Calder and purchased 2yo Ice Wynnd Fire, 200-1 in the future book. Figure another fiver.

Another possible early bet is a colt named Master David, who just ran a closing second in the Grade II Remsen. Though a New York bred, you can get a ticket on this guy at 250-1 at Bally’s Race and Sports Book. If you are interested in all the future book prices you check the Bally’s web site, which is constantly updated.

One other KD horse of note is Tapit, who was super impressive winning the Laurel Futurity. Tapit is trained by Michael "the Mad Genius" Dickinson, who is not one of the usual suspects making an attempt at winning the Derby. Dickinson had Soto last year but he got hurt before the Derby. If Tapit gets there, he just may be one of the favorites. We are staying off him since his odds plummeted from 200-1 to 15-1.

Talking about ponies, I am a contest junkie and play almost all the horse contests in Vegas. They usually cost $10 and you have a shot at thousands. I also like free ”” one of my favorite things. I recommend a web site called TrackChampion.com. This is just a fabulous site to visit especially if you want to take a shot at a free contest. They have several each week, including harness. Give it a look.

Speaking of the web, our GT site gives daily picks on all sports including Southern California horse racing. If you enjoy hockey and college hoops, our three handicappers have been doing great with their selections.

NFL
Sunday, Dec. 14

Jaguars (+7) at Patriots: A breather for New England after hosting Miami. PATS, OVER.

Steelers (+3) at Jets: Being a diehard Steelers fan for over 40 years, I must say I’m not a happy camper. I do think Pittsburgh will play well and eke out a victory. Money line. STEELERS.

Cowboys (—1) at Redskins: We see the Redskins getting skinned again, even with the game in Washington. COWBOYS.

49ers (+3) at Bengals: These two teams have only met three times in the last decade with Cincy winning all three. Make it four. BENGALS.

Bills (+7) at Titans: The Tennessee defense gets the job done. TITANS.

Seahawks (+6) at Rams: St. Louis looks to get some revenge after losing earlier this season at Seattle, 24-23. RAMS.

Ravens (—6) at Raiders: These teams have met four times since ’93, with Baltimore winning and covering each time. Plus, all went below the total. RAVENS, UNDER.

Packers (—5) at Chargers: Lay the points. PACKERS.
