Deflation will hit
Boise State in Fort Worth

Dec 23, 2003 1:03 AM

We continue with Part II of our look at the college bowls. And, we promise to track down those gremlins causing problems with our season totals. Merry Christmas to you all!

Tuesday, Dec. 23
Fort Worth Bowl

Boise State (—10) vs TCU: The Broncos are sitting on three straight bowl wins and covers but all have been on their home blue turf. Now they must go to TCU and give up an inflated point spread to boot. TCU.

Wednesday, Dec. 24
Las Vegas Bowl

New Mexico (+3) vs Oregon St: These two teams look pretty even to me. They have two common opponents and both results were about the same. We favor the Lobos defense in this one and think they will keep it close with a break here or there. N. MEXICO.

Thursday, Dec. 25
Hawaii Bowl

Houston (+10½) at Hawaii: Both teams can put points on the board in bunches but Houston’s defense has allowed 35 ppg. The Rainbows are no slouch at giving up points either, so the question is do you lay the wood or go "over" the total of 75. The Cougars have had a great season for new HC Art Briles and should have a nice holiday break on the Pacific. HOUSTON.

Friday, Dec. 26
Motor City Bowl

N’western (+7½) vs B.Green: Both teams got hammered by Miami Ohio. In fact, BG fell twice. The Falcons are going to their first bowl in 11 years led by top QB Harris, but think the Big Ten Wildcats have played the tougher schedule. The points look too good to resist. N’WESTERN.

Insight Bowl

California (+3) vs Va Tech: This is not where VT wanted to be. The Hokies failed to cover their last four games, losing three straight up. The only win was 24-23 against Temple. On the other hand, the Bears are elated to be in their first bowl since ”˜96. Cal won and covered its last two games and compiled a 5-1 ATS mark in the last 6. CAL.

Saturday, Dec. 27
Continental Tire

Virginia (—2) vs Pitt: The Panthers really finished up their season in a bad way, no covers last three games and 1-2 SU. The lone win came against Temple. Virginia ended the regular season on the high note with wins and covers over Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech. Both teams can score and this looks like an OT game. The final score should exceed 53 with the Cavs looking like the more motivated team. VIRGINIA, OVER.

Monday, Dec. 29
Alamo Bowl

Mich St (+3) vs Nebraska: Both teams have huge followings so this will be a boisterous crowd. The edge goes to the State "O" in this game and the final regular season win over Penn State should have the Spartans in the right mental state to cap off good season. MICHIGAN ST.

NFL

Saturday, Dec. 27

Bills (+9) at Patriots: Buffalo blanked the Pats in Week 1. That could happen in reverse here. PATS, UNDER (34).

Seahawks (+1) at 49ers: The final score exceeded the posted total in the last three meetings. We like that trend. OVER.

Eagles (—7) at Redskins: Lay the points on the road. EAGLES.

Sunday, Dec. 28

Browns (+7) at Bengals: Cincy got swept by the Dawgs last year and will return the favor here. BENGALS.

Bucs (+6) at Titans: Tennessee gets job done here en route to the playoffs. TITANS.

Jets (+4) at Dolphins: New York "D" shuts down Dolphins and ends their season. JETS, UNDER.

Cowboys (—3) at Saints: Take the points. SAINTS.

Bears (+10) at Chiefs: Chicago gives its all in this one. BEARS.
