Bicycle Casino hosts
world-class pool

The Bicycle Casino in Bell Gardens will host the World Pool Championships, January 6-11, 2004.

The event, which is open to the public, features top players from the United Poolplayers Association (UPA) including international stars such as Johnny Archer; Efren Reyes; Mika Immonen; Ralf Souquet; and U.S. Trick Shot Champion Chef Anton.

Among the events is the 2003 season finale of Nine Ball Championship, where tour points will be tallied, the Pro Tour Champion will be determined, and then honored at The UPA Year End Awards Banquet.

A summary of events include:

Tuesday, January 6: Meet the Players press party and player introductions. A celebrity 9-Ball Challenge. A trick shot demonstration by Chef Anton, two-time U.S. Trick Shot Champion.

Wednesday, January 7 through Sunday, January 11, 2004: The United Poolplayers Association (UPA) Pro Tour Championship.

Sunday, January 11: The UPA Year End Awards Banquet. Doors open 7p.m.

Overall, 64 players, including a stellar cast of international 9-Ball superstars, will be vying for over $40,000 in prize money. Some of the top USA players include:

Johnny Archer (Atlanta, GA): The Scorpion ”” #1 ranked in the USA and four-time World Champion.

Charlie Williams (Orlando, FL): The Korean Dragon ”” #2 ranked in the USA and winner of 2 UPA Tour Stops this year.

Rodney Morris (Honolulu, HI): The Rocket ”” #3 ranked in the USA and winner of The 2003 World Pool League (Poland).

Tony Robles (NY, NY): The Silent Assassin ”” #5 ranked in the USA and many time Northeast Champion.

Nick Varner (Owensboro, KY): The KY Colonel ”” #7 ranked in the USA and is a Billiard Congress of America Hall-of-Famer.

The tournament also features a superb roster of top international players including:

Efren Reyes (Manila, Philippines): The Magician -”” #1 ranked in the Phillipines and considered by many to be the greatest player of all time.

Ralf Souquet (Manching, Germany): The Kaiser ”” #1 ranked player in Germany and former World Champion & US Open Champion.

Mika Immonen (Helsinki, Finland): The Iceman ”” #1 ranked player in Finland and former World Champion and currently ranked #1 in the World.

Francisco Bustamante (Manila, Philippines): Django ”” Former Player of the Year and multiple winner of international events.

Young Hwa Jeong (Seoul, Korea): Spice Man - #1 Korean National Champion and 2 time medalist at Asian Games.

Luc Salvas (Montreal, Canada): Machine Gun Luc - Multi- time National Canadian Champion.
