Navy ship will sink
against Texas Tech

Wishing everyone an early Happy New Year with the rest of my college bowl selections.

Tuesday, Dec. 30
Houston Bowl

Navy (+12½) vs Texas Tech: Navy has had a great season, but think Tech has too many offensive weapons. Look for Red Raiders to sink the Middies in a high scoring game. TEXAS TECH.

Holiday

Wash St (+9½) vs Texas: Not exactly where the Longhorns wanted to be. With only two losses (Arkansas, Oklahoma), the Horns could definitely cover if they have their game face on. Well-coached Cougars delighted to be here and should be able to hang in and cover. WASH ST.

Silicon Valley

Fresno St (+3½) vs UCLA: Bruins lost their last four games and were only 3-9 ATS. The underdog Bulldogs were 5-6 ATS with a weaker schedule, but did go 2-2 in last four. Really don’t know what to expect from UCLA but will take the points in this game that looks like a toss-up. FRESNO ST.

Wednesday, Dec. 31
Music City

Wisconsin (+3) vs Auburn: The Tigers really thought this was going to be their year, but have to settle for Nashville, the Grand Ole Opry and the Badgers. What a letdown! Wisky suffered through a lot of injuries and is happy to be here. WISCONSIN.

Sun

Minnesota (—3½) vs Oregon: It’s the Ducks seventh straight bowl appearance. Oregon beat Michigan earlier in the year and won its last three both SU and ATS vs bowl teams (California, UCLA, Oregon State). In fact, O-State put it to New Mexico in the Las Vegas Bowl. Minnesota has a big time offense in what looks to be a high scoring game. OREGON, OVER 60½.

Liberty

Utah (—2½) vs So Miss: Very consistent Utah proved it can win on the road, going 4-1 SU and ATS. Just like Urban Meyer and the well-coached Utes. UTAH.

Independence

Missouri (+2½) vs Arkansas: Senior laden Razorbacks looking to go out with a bowl win. ARKANSAS.

San Francisco

Boston Col (+1) vs Colo St: Don’t want any part of State in this game. BC ended its season on a high note and a bowl bid with wins and covers against Rutgers and Virginia Tech. BC.

Thursday, Jan. 1
Outback

Iowa (+3½) vs Florida: The Gators have too much offense for those Hawkeyes. FLORIDA.

Gator

W.Va (+3½) vs Maryland: Just love the Mountaineers in this game at Jacksonville. WVU finished the year with seven straight wins and the offense is running on all cylinders. W. VIRGINIA

Capital One

Purdue (+3) vs Georgia: The Boilermakers are off great season and have a defense that can play with anybody. Look for the Purdue "D" to shut down the Bulldogs lackluster offense in Orlando. PURDUE.

Rose

Michigan (+7) vs USC: Mental attitude belongs to the Big Ten in this game. The Pac 10 champion Trojans were robbed of a shot at the BCS title. The Wolverines are elated to be back in the Rose Bowl and could redeem their loss at Oregon. MICHIGAN.

Orange

Florida St (—1½) vs Miami, FL: The ACC champ Seminoles will gain revenge for earlier loss this season to the Hurricanes. FLORIDA STATE.

Friday, Jan. 2
Cotton

Oklahoma St (+1½) vs Ole Miss: Take Eli Manning, the better QB here. OLE MISS.

Peach

Clemson (+5½) vs Tenn: Take the improved Tigers offense here. CLEMSON.

Fiesta Bowl

Kansas St (—7) vs Ohio St: Buckeyes no stranger to big games and have a super coach who will have them ready. Look for the Buckeyes defense, one of the best in the nation to keep it close and give them a shot at the win. OHIO ST.

Saturday, Jan. 3
Humanitarian

Tulsa (+7½) vs Georgia Tech: Who could believe Tulsa would be in a bowl game? TULSA.

Sugar
(National championship)

LSU (+6½) vs Oklahoma: Love the Sooners here laying less than a TD. OKLAHOMA.

Last week: 5-2

Postseason: 5-4

Season: 97-98
