Honors for Harrah’s Loveman

He only left academia a few short years ago but already he has made a major impact on the gaming community. So much so that Gary Loveman, president and CEO of Harrah’s Entertainment Inc. has been named gaming and lodging industry’, "Best CEO" by Institutional Investor magazine.

The magazine honored a total of 62 chief executive officers of companies from a variety of industries. Among the other persons honored were Sumner Redstone of Viacom; Michael Dell of Dell Computer; L. Lee Scott Jr., of Wal-Mart Stores, and Steve Ballmer of Microsoft.

Selections were based on the votes of investment portfolio managers and equity research analysts at more than 400 money management firms. Respondents were asked to identify the top three CEOs in the industry sectors for which they had responsibility.

Loveman taught business at Harvard University before being tapped by Harrah’s Entertainment’s Chairman Phil Satre as the company’s chief operating officer. In 2003, when Satre retired from the active management of the company, Loveman moved up to become the company’s CEO.
