Boomtown Casino and Hotel Reno Poker Corral’s Chris Moneymaker Texas Hold’em Tournament has dealt out nine lucky winners in a poker showdown against the 2003 World Series of Poker champion.

The tournament offered a chance at part of over $12,000 in cash prizes for a low $20 entry and $100 buy-in. A big first place payout of $4,200 went to Ken Barlor of Reno. The casino manager visits Boomtown twice a week and was left with one thought ”” "wow!" ”” after winning top prize in the tournament against the reigning World Series champ.

"Yahoo" was how La Jolla, Ca. resident Sean O’Neal described the excitement after his second place win of $2,400. Troy Davis, a contractor from Grass Valley, Ca. took home $1,440 for his third place win. Five other lucky winners were dealt a share of nearly $4,000 in cash for their fourth through ninth place wins.

Two hours into tournament play, Craig Shuman of Reno, Nev. knocked Moneymaker out of tournament contention with his hand of two Jacks and two eights. The feat earned him a $300 bounty and a cordial handshake from the World Series champ.

Moneymaker also signed free autographs and enjoyed live play in the Poker Corral during his Boomtown visit. The twenty-seven-year-old novice player and accountant from Spring Hill, Tenn. only had three years of on-line Poker experience before turning a $40 preliminary Internet Poker tournament into a whopping $2.5 million World Series win, and beating 839 of the world’s top Poker players.

"We were very proud to give our guests and neighbors the chance to play against our cordial guest of honor, Mr. Moneymaker. A big thank you goes to our tournament dealers and our valued guests who made this event what it was," Boomtown Poker Tournament Director Dave Loveless says.

The expanded Poker Corral is now located on the middle of the casino’s east side, directly north of the previous location. The new 700-square foot room offers four tables of Poker excitement, all in a roomy, upscale setting. Complimentary pastries, cookies and coffee greet morning Poker players while free pizza and snacks are served up to evening players.

The Poker Corral is one of the nation’s few Poker Rooms to be named a Four Star Poker Room by Poker Digest, an award given for "excellence in Poker room operation and customer service."

The Poker Corral’s new Lucky 13 bonus buy-ins deal out $15 in extra Poker luck with $35 awarded for $20 7 Card Stud buy-in and $45 for $30 Texas Hold’Em buy-in. The bonus buy-ins are awarded to the first six 7 Card Stud and first seven Texas Hold’Em players between 10:30 a.m. and noon daily.

New signature hand jackpots also award $500 to players with Boomtown’s signature hand of four kings and the queen of hearts. The progressive jackpot increases $25 for every week not hit.
