MAYER’S 2 FOR TUESDAY PROS

Feb 24, 2004 7:03 AM

NBA

Sixers (—4) at Hawks: Iverson can win this game by himself. The Hawks are playing for LeBron Jr., some Atlanta prep hot shot so they want to lose. Philly is 10 games below .500 and still in the East playoff chase. Unreal! A must victory. PHILADELPHIA.

Sonics (+6) at Jazz: Nothing has changed with Seattle. Win or die by the 3s. Jerry Sloan actually getting a double-double effort out of Ostertag. Jazz covers this one on smarts and supportive crowd. UTAH.

Last week: 2-0

Season: 23-11.

NHL

Bruins at Islanders: Bruins third in a division where all five teams are over .500, but just two points from leading the NHL. Isles in thick of playoff picture, but Montreal and Buffalo are closing. Good matchup. Tie a good possibility. NY ISLES.

Senators at Canadiens: Deja vu. Ottawa is one point from the top spot in the East. Montreal is two behind the Isles for the 7 seed in the playoffs. Last week Sens could only manage a road tie with woeful Caps. We wish more Canada games were on TV. MONTREAL.

Last week: 1-0-1

Season: 16-19.
