Look: There’s a fuzzy bird

The picture of the "Bird" may be "Fuzzy" but the names of sports personalities are being used to promote the proposals for a casino license in Indiana.

Basketball legend and favorite local son Larry Bird is a member of the group called Orange County Development LLC that has filed for a license to place a casino in the neighboring towns of French Lick and West Baden Springs.

Golf great Fuzzy Zoeller has recently joined the group headed by Donald Trump that also seeks to build in the same area.

Although there are five applicants for the single license to be made available for the area, only one other group is considered prominent enough to win the license. That group is known as the Lost River Developments LLC whose affiliate is the French-based Groupe Tranchant, a European casino operator.

Lost River Development has plans for a nautical themed facility while Orange County Development would add a Larry Bird Museum to its casino complex. Also part of the development team is former Nevada Gov. Bob List.

The state’s gaming commission has begun background checks on the applicants in hopes of establishing public hearings in the near future. Also, the local historic commission has begun three weeks of negotiations on local development issues relating their proposals.

This will be Indiana’s 11th riverboat casino license.
