Do something nice for Mother!

Plan ahead for Mother’s Day! It is traditionally one of the busiest holidays for restaurants across the country.

This Sunday, Ellis Island Casino and Brewery will be offering one of their famous, value priced holiday meals designed especially with mothers in mind. Select an entrée of steak and crab legs served with summer squash, baked potato, soup or salad, or Imperial chicken served with summer squash, rice pilaf, soup or salad. Either choice is priced at just $14.95 per person and includes a special dessert made just for mom. Serving hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. in the restaurant or Celebration Square.

While the El Cortez downtown doesn’t offer a regular daily buffet, they do offer specials on holidays. For Cinco de Mayo, Wednesday, May 5, Careful Kitty’s Café will feature a buffet of traditional Mexican dishes from noon until 9 p.m. And on Mother’s Day, Sunday May 9, you can treat Mom to a relaxing day out at another specially prepared buffet. Both buffets are $9.95.

Barley’s Casino & Brewing Company will host Brewfest III on Saturday, from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. The $20 cover charge allows you to sample micro-brews from 17 of the western region’s top micro breweries. Partygoers can receive a $5 discount by showing their Barley’s Player Rewards Card, which, of course, is free to join if you’re not already a member. The day’s festivities include entertainment by Smokin’ Blues, the Moanin’ Black Snakes and Chris Hiatt with his tribute to Stevie Ray Vaughan.

Las Vegas participating breweries include Sin City Beer Company; Ellis Island; Chicago Brewing Company; Tenaya Creek; Monte Carlo; Gordon Biersch; Big Dogs; and Main Street Station’s Triple 7 Brew Pub.

On Friday May 14, Barley’s will be presenting a free outdoor classic rock concert with the Limey Bar Stewards, featuring Lez Warner, former drummer for "The Cult." The concert is 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Adding to last week’s rundown on the start of casino summer pool parties, the Wild Wild West joins in on the fun beginning May 20. The casino will host free pool parties from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on the third Thursday of every month through September 16. The casino also serves an ongoing nightly prime rib special in the Gambler’s Grill. The $5.99 meal is served with an 8-ounce cut of prime rib, choice of potato, vegetable of the day and dinner rolls. Serving hours fare 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.

As a reminder, restaurant specials often change without notice, so it’s best to call ahead or check the prices prior to ordering.

Until next time, "Eat well, play well, stay well!"
