Expect Indiana in NBA Finals

May 4, 2004 7:21 AM

If I were Larry Bird, I’d be feeling pretty good right now. His Indiana Pacers polished off Boston in 4 games, all by double-digits. They will handle Miami or New Orleans and then defeat the winner of a bloodbath series between Detroit and New Jersey. The favorites are dominating the NBA playoffs to my surrprise. Hard to get a whiff of an underdog cover.

...Wonder how many wiseguys won’t bet Smarty Jones in the Preakness? Looks like another showdown at the Belmont for the Triple Crown. Our Derby choice, Limestone finished fourth, but that won’t pay the bills.

..It’s very possible that Tampa Bay, Calgary and San Jose could reach the Stanley Cup finals. Hockey TV ratings are bad enough with glamor teams Detroit and Colorado still alive. If both are bounced in the conference semis, will anyone really care who wins the Cup? Maybe me, friends and family.
