Commerce Casino’s 2004 California State Poker Championship was off to a promising, record-breaking start last week. This year’s tournament, which features more events than previous CSPC competitions, is already creating a huge wave of side action in the casino’s top poker section as well. Scheduled to run through June 21, the 2004 CSPC offers larger prize pool guarantees and more added money than its predecessors. Interested players are advised to check the tournament schedule for more information regarding satellites and events.

While the action heats up at the tournament tables for the California State Poker Championship, the laughs keep coming at Jokers Comedy Club every Thursday night at 8 p.m. in the Arena. Interested patrons will also note that the Arena also offers pre-performance dinner specials. What’s more, Jokers’ performances are followed by Karaoke/DJ music and dancing every Thursday night. The Arena also features live entertainment and dancing on Friday and Saturday nights from 9 p.m. to 1:15 a.m. and Karaoke/DJ music Sunday through Thursday evenings.

Commerce Casino’s semi-annual "Employees Only" limit hold’em tournament, which was held one day in advance of the California State Poker Championship, generated a $5,920 prize pool with $3,500-added by the casino. Results are as follows: 1st place - Beemer Bunmiend, $2,370; 2nd place — David Chan, $1,360; 3rd place- Epifanio Roman, $710; 4th place — Raven Benton, $415; 5th place — Earl Bach, $325; 6th place — John Griffo, $265; 7th place — Lydia Jang, $150; and 8th place — Zaynab Magadem, $120.
