MonteLago has trendy goals

With Casino MonteLago having just celebrated its first anniversary, Race and Sports book manager Rob Terch is finding some ways to make the Lake Las Vegas desert jewel carve a niche in the gambling industry.

"We want to do things that are different, to be original on a smaller scale," Terch said regarding Montelago’s early posting of the World Hockey Championships, taking place Aug. 30-Sept. 14.

"Hockey is one of the things coming up that nobody has right now. One of our guys, Jay Petrick, has done a great job of researching the teams. I feel we have the lead in one of the sport’s premier events."

Petrick’s breakdown is: Canada 2-1, Czech Republic 3-1, Russia 4-1, Finland 9-2, Sweden 5-1, USA 6-1, Slovakia 10-1 and Germany 25-1.

"I had a lot of time on my hands," Petrick quipped.

So will the NHL if it strikes. Lago rules!
