The Mirage set to host
World Poker Tour

The Mirage is gearing up for its World Poker Tour event, The Mirage Poker Showdown, scheduled for July 29-Aug. 1. The final table of the tourney will be filmed for tape delay on The Travel Channel.

The Showdown is part of the WPT’s 15-tournament tour for 2004-2005. The entry fee for the event is $10,000.

"Poker has quickly become the fastest growing sport in America and we believe there is no better time than now to become a part of the phenomenon," said Bill McBeath, president and chief operating officer for The Mirage. "This is a great opportunity for us and we look forward to a long-lasting relationship with the WPT and successful tournaments in the future."

Players, professional and amateurs alike, can register at The Mirage and may earn a spot in the tournament by winning "satellite" tourneys during the week leading up to the Showdown.

Tournaments scheduled include a $1,000 no limit hole ”˜em event on Monday, July 26, a $2,000 no limit hold ”˜em event on Tuesday, July 27 and a $1,000 super satellite tournament scheduled for Wednesday, July 28.

The WPT is the creation of Lyle Berman and Steve Lipscomb.
