Tiger’s favored status stops

Jul 20, 2004 4:38 AM

Since 2000, it’s been a guarantee that Tiger Woods would be the shortest odds in any golf tournament he entered. That is, until the Hilton lowered the boom Monday.

Ernie Els has become the early 13-2 favorite to win next month’s PGA Championship. Woods and Phil Mickelson are next at 7-1, followed by Vijay Singh (12-1) and Retief Goosen (16-1). British Open champion Todd Hamilton breaks through to individual odds status at 100-1. British books could not find a single winning bet on Hamilton.

Too bad the Los Angeles Dodgers can’t play all their games against Arizona. The Dodgers completed a sweep of the D’backs in Phoenix and are 12-2 for the year.
