Las Vegas casinos have a variety of promotions and giveaways awaiting workers who are looking for a place to cash their paychecks. From free pulls on a slot, to free bingo games, to scratch-off cards, paycheck promotions are geared to lure wage earners — and their hard-earned wages — into their casinos.
Most of the major employers in Las Vegas have accounts set up at the locals-oriented casinos that will allow employees to cash checks with minimal identification — usually, just a Nevada driver’s license will do the trick.
For paychecks from out-of-state or small business owners, the casino cage may want to photocopy the check and verify the bank account before cashing the check. This process could take a few days to two weeks. But once the information is in the system, the employee can cash checks without delay.
Cashing the paycheck entitles the employee to a prize, promotion or contest. Here are some of the best promotions in Las Vegas:
Arizona Charlie’s West has an Ultimate Rewards card that is given when a paycheck is cashed. The check-casher swipes the card through a kiosk and a ticket is printed out giving the player the option of winning either money, prizes or entry into an end-of-the-month drawing in which 60 people win $100 each. The daily prize can be as much as $10,000.
Coast Casinos offer players the chance to win up to $25,000 at the Barbary Coast and up to $250,000 at the Gold Coast, Suncoast and The Orleans. After cashing their paycheck, players are given a token that is inserted at the Paycheck Party Machine at all four casinos. Gamblers at the Barbary Coast play poker on the machine while players at the Gold Coast, Suncoast and The Orleans get to choose from keno, slot or a prize wheel in addition to poker. Prizes include free drinks, rolls of nickels, hats, T-shirts, diners for two and cash.
Last month, one lucky player won $250,000 at the Gold Coast when he "spun" the prize wheel after cashing his paycheck.
Paycheck cashers who play at Station Casinos (Boulder Station, Palace Station, Sunset Station, Texas Station and Green Valley Ranch Station) are allowed to use their Boarding Pass card at a kiosk machine at the main cage. With a swipe, winners can come away with cash, T-shirts, bonus points or free drinks.
The Fiesta Henderson and Fiesta Rancho give tokens for cashed paychecks. The tokens are put into a huge Tecate bottle and the bottle returns a ticket that entitles the winners to cold beer, merchandise, slot points or up to $10,000 in cash.
Renata’s Casino in Henderson gives a token after a player’s paycheck has been approved and cashed. The player inserts the token into a poker machine and, depending upon the hand he is dealt, the player can win $5 in script that can be used for either bowling or food. Other prizes include drinks and cash awards that range from $5 to a million dollars.
Terrible’s Hotel and Casino has a bingo game set up at the cashier’s cage so that the check casher can win everything from a free drink up to a 2004 Nissan. The cash prizes go from $2, $25, $100, $250, $500 and $1,000.
The Plaza has five times points on slot play, an offer which requires taking a voucher to the slot club and comes with the requirement that the points be played off within five days of cashing the paycheck. The Plaza also has a paycheck poker machine which wage earners can play to win everything from drinks and dinners to cash prizes up to $5,000. There is also a $100,000 prize for an in-sequence royal flush.
Jerry’s Nugget in North Las Vegas has perhaps the most generous paycheck promotion. The casino’s Paycheck Frenzy Video Wall Game includes three kinds of Toyota vehicles and prizes ranging from $25 to $50,000. The paychecks must be cashed on Thursday, Friday or Saturday and the players get a token for a spin in the game. They can also win 10 times points, double and triple jackpots, prime rib dinners and other kinds of food. Jerry’s Nugget also gives away guaranteed cash prizes totaling $6,000 on the last Friday of every month. Entrants can also win instant cash prizes ranging from $100 to $2,500.
Speedway Casino offers a free drink to players who cash their paycheck on the property.
The Gold Spike offers a two-for-one meal deal for wage earners whose paycheck is at least $250. People who eat by themselves can get half-off of their meals. There are also nightly offerings for workers with paychecks of any size with prizes including T-shirts, hats, show tickets and two nightly drawings for cash, one with a $100 prize and the other with $150 prize.
The Cannery has a bingo game at the center of its paycheck promotion. Hits on the game can result in prizes ranging from $5 and $10 coupons for the gift shop and restaurants to cash prizes ranging up to $15,000. Winners might also receive $50 coupons for gas or drinks.
At Rampart Casino, paycheck cashers are given scratch cards with a special play area of it determining the prize level. If the player can find five identical winning symbols after scratching off five squares, the holder will win anywhere from $1,000 to $250,000 depending on the number of stars in the special play area.
