It’s OK Jimmy,
I take full blame for loss

Oct 12, 2004 3:18 AM

Well, I took my ex-good friend Jimmy V down the tubes last week.

All I had to do was mention his 5-0 streak and it was over. I also mentioned the 10-0 Kansas State streak and it ended. Am I good or what?

No wonder I have such a huge following. But you just got to be lucky. I was in line at Palace Station on Friday and the guy in front of me was cashing his NFL contest ticket from the previous week. He didn’t know that he won until a friend of his told him. You see, he had all losers but was trying to pick winners and almost threw his ticket away.

Here’s a couple more thoughts on last week’s games. I use to use this system that really worked, but have since let it pass me by. I will still pass it on to my faithful readers. I only used it with NFL Monday night games. I would bet on the team that looked worse and against the team the looked best in their next games. This also works very well in college football.

There were two games last week that I will mention. Georgia romped all over LSU the previous week and now were at home playing a down Tennessee team that looked awful the previous week against Auburn. Tennessee wins straight up as an 11 point dog, 19-14.

Now take LSU, who was completely destroyed by Georgia the previous week 45-16. The Tigers were now at Florida, who had just whacked Arkansas the previous week 45-30. LSU was a 3½ point dog and won straight up, 24-21.

Look for more of the same in the upcoming weeks. Now on to this week’s picks.

Wednesday, Oct. 13

W.Va (+6½) at UConn: The Huskies’ big win came at the hands of Pittsburgh, who is really bad! This is a must win for WVU in order to secure a good bowl game. I see the Mounties controlling the ball on the ground and their top notch "D" shutting down the Connecticut offense much like Boston College did. W. VIRGINIA.

Louisville (+9½) at Miami: The ultimate offense against defense. As the old saying goes, the big "D" will prevail. I thought I would be laying around 12 in this game, but laying less then 10 should be a very good bet. If you don’t here from me next week, that’s because I will be listening to this game on my radio at McCarron International Airport. If the "Canes" don’t cover, I may have to leave fast. MIAMI $$$

Friday, Oct. 16

TCU (+6) at UAB: Hopefully by this time I will have collected my Miami dough because I really like this game. I just may want to bet my winnings. These two have met twice with UAB getting the cover in both. TCU is 1-4 ATS so far this year with its only cover coming against a sorry SMU team. UAB is 4-1 ATS with its only loss coming against Florida State 34-7. If still laying less then 7, this will be a double bet. If 7 or more, just a single. UAB —6 $$

Saturday, Oct. 16

Notre Dame (-6½) at Navy: The Midshipmen are undefeated and looking for a chance to go to a major bowl. Winning this game will be a step toward that direction. Navy always has been a big thorn in the Irish as far as spreads. Look for all out effort. NAVY.

Last week: 2-4

Season: 23-26

NFL
Sunday, Oct. 17

Vikings (-3½) at Saints: Minnesota escaped at Houston in OT last week, but don’t see a repeat here. Saints desperate for a win after two straight setbacks. Take 3 and the hook with New Orleans at home. SAINTS.

Monday, Oct. 18

Bucs (+6½) at Rams: Well I hope I am having a good week going into this game because I will be firing here. I just love TB plus the points. Bucs are 4-1 SU and 5-0 ATS in five meetings with the Rams. Plus, they finally got the monkey off their back last week. Tampa Bay "D" will shut down the Rams offense and get the win. BUC$.

Last week: 1-0

Season: 6-6
