The Tuscany Suites Hotel and Casino on east Flamingo is as aesthetically pleasing as any property in town. The sprawling casino adjoins the Palm Springs-style, 720-suite hotel that opened a year ahead of the gambling hall.
Tuscany Suites — built where a pirate’s galleon was "moored" for many years — is the culmination of a lifelong dream for Charles Heers, a developer who has lived and worked in Las Vegas for 55 years.
"We fill a nice niche in the valley, catering to locals, tourists as well as conventioneers," said one of the hotel’s front desk supervisors.
"Customers who like to be treated well come here, knowing that all of their needs would be met," the supervisor said.
The Tuscany features an upscale Spanish modern design, similar to townhouses in Palm Springs and Santa Barbara, accented by tile floors, adobe walls, dark wood columns and wrought iron fixtures.
The casino has nearly 800 gaming machines, all of which are ticket in/ticket out, plus a handful of table games — two craps tables, a roulette wheel and about half a dozen blackjack tables.
Designed with the player in mind, the casino features a comfortable setting with plenty of "elbow room" between banks of carousels and the machines.
The sports book is located opposite the casino bar and is operated by the very capable Cal-Neva company of bookmakers.
Deceivingly large, the casino is flanked by the Starz Lounge for live entertainment, as well as the open-air Marilyn’s Café and Buffet.
The hotel’s upscale restaurant, Tuscany Gardens, features fine Italian dining in an al fresco setting. Located in the hotel section of the property opposite the registration lobby, Tuscany Gardens is a great spot to feast on moderately priced veal Oscar, shrimp scampi, lobster fra diavolo and other Italian specialties.
Set to open within the next few weeks is a new restaurant, the Cantina Mexican Restaurant, which will specialize in South of the Border dishes and potent margaritas.
In addition, the casino has about 26,000 square feet of convention and meeting space located on a mezzanine level above the casino, and a sparkling pool set among lush landscaping.
