GT Handicappers Picks

Nov 12, 2004 10:34 PM

Ravens -11/2 at Jets: Baltimore moved from pick to slight favorite when official word came that Jets QB Pennington was out. The Jets believe in Quincy Carter, or so they say. Our feeling is they rally behind Q and win with defense. JETS.

Steelers -41/2 at Browns: Pittsburgh finds out what life is like as the top dog invading a Dawg Pound. Browns offense has improved in recent weeks as QB Garcia becomes more comfortable. Big Ben's win streak hits a bone. BROWNS.

Texans at Colts -91/2: Following the trend of betting against the Monday night winner usually works. Indy may not be convinced Houston is the real deal, especially after the Texans foundered in Denver. Houston much more appealing as a big dog. TEXANS.

Seahawks +11/2 at Rams: Seattle had the Rams down 17 at home and let it slip away. That won't happen this time. Always fun to bet against Mike Martz. Maybe Holmgren will plan another fake field goal pass. SEAHAWKS.

Chiefs -41/2 at Saints: With Priest Holmes banged up, the rushing edge should go to New Orleans and Deuce McAllister. If QB Brooks can throw passes in the right direction, Saints could pull off a money line win. SAINTS.

Panthers at 49ers -1: In the best and worst of times, Carolina has had its way with Frisco. This is definitely the worst for each franchise. Jake Delhomme wins this one with his heart. PANTHERS.
Past week: 4-1. Season: 26-23-1

Texas -22 at Kansas: Longhorns off an unbelievable comeback win against Okie State after falling behind 35-7. Kansas threw a scare into Oklahoma at Norman last month andbeat Kansas State. This could be interesting. KANSAS.

Clemson -13 at Duke: Tigers off stunning win at Miami. Could be in big trouble here against the Blue Devils, a great cover team as a double-digit dog. Tigers are not a great offensive team. DUKE.

Conn at Ga Tech -81/2: Ridiculous scheduling for this matchup in heart of ACC season for Tech. UConn, being a new Division I entry, has lots to gain with this scalp andrevenge factor applies. CONN.

Iowa at Minnesota -31/2: Gophers in mini-collapse, losing two straight after 6-0 start. Iowa's 9-1 ATS mark in series is persuasive. IOWA.

Pitt at Notre Dame -111/2: Saw Walt Harris press conference on tube and he didn't seem too worried about Irish. And, he shouldn't. Three of last four matchups decided by 10 or less. PITT.

Cal -31 at Washington: Everybody is going to take Cal. Huskies 0-9 ATS mark is worst in the nation. However, it's November in Seattle. Look what happened to USC inCorvallis! Fog, snow, cold. Weather plus Cal having never spotted Huskies this many points sways us. WASH

N'western at Michigan -131/2: Wolverines have never been a good double-digit favorite home or away. Visiting Wildcats off three straight covers and are 5-2 ATS in lastseven against Big Blue. N'WESTERN

Army at Tulane -6: If the Green Wave can beat Navy by 32 points, imagine what they can do against the Cadets. TULANE.
Last week: 5-2Season: 32-23-1

Bears at Titans -5 1/2 total 35: Titans off much needed bye week should be well prepared against the Bears who are coming off big win in New York last week. This will be Tennessee's last home game for a long time as the play their next three games on the road. TITANS -5 1/2

Buccaneers at Falcons -3 1/2 total 40: Tampa coming off big win last week at home against the Chiefs have owned the Falcons over the past few years going 6-1 ATS in their last seven meetings. BUCCANEERS +3 1/2

Vikings at Packers -4 total 50: Vikings have lost two straight and will be all out to get back into the win column here. This has all the appearance off a big scoring game and the team that gets the ball last could get the win. The last seven meetings between these two have gone over the total and this game should follow that trend. OVER 50

Rice at UTEP -17: Rejuvenated El Paso playing every game like its for the National Championship. Revenge wont get any sweeter here as Rice the Minors last year 45-14 and never did call off the dogs. Look for El Paso to run it up here as they continue their winning ways. The Minors have covered six straight with their only loss coming at the hands of undefeated Boise St. UTEP -17

Washington State at Arizona St -13: Wash St coming off big win at UCLA last week 31-29 after storming out to a big lead. Prior to that win they were 0-5 ATS in their last five games. Arizona State looking for a good Bowl game just got by Stanford last week and with a win here can finish up the season against lowly Arizona and go 9-2. The favorite in this match up has gone 8-0 ATS since 1994.

Georgia at Auburn -4 : Auburn Tigers had a week off to get ready for this huge game. Auburn is 9-0 SU and 6-1-1 ATS. Georgia is 8-1 SU and has beaten the Tigers the last two years and would really love to knock Auburn out of a shot at the National Title. This will be one big time dog fight most likely being decided late. Points look juicy here! GEORGIA +4

Buffalo at New England -7.5: The Patriots had no trouble with the Bills earlier this season. And with their loss two weeks ago, the Pats won't be taking any team lightly. The Bills's strength is its defense, but they won't move the ball consistently. NEW ENGLAND.

Pittsburgh -3.5 at Cleveland: The Steelers got by the Browns 32-23 five weeks ago. Since then they've knocked off two previously unbeatens, New England and Philadelphia in consecutive weeks. One has to wonder how much effort they can muster here against a Cleveland team that should be ready for a top effort. CLEVELAND.

Houston at Indianapolis -9.5: There's no question that the Colts will be able to score into the 30's against the Texans. Houston should be able to move the ball through the air, but don't expect them to convert every red zone visit into seven points. COLTS.

San Diego State at Air Force -5.5: This has been a mediocre season for the flyboys, but it's been worse for the Aztecs, who have been ravaged by injuries, especially on the offensive line. Going from So Cal tropics to frigid Rockies isn't an easy trip. AIR FORCE.

Washington State at Arizona State -13.5: The Sun Devils' two losses this season were to USC and Cal - arguably both Top 5 teams. The Cougars were lucky to beat the Bruins last week after their top runner, Maurice Drew, left the game with a sprained knee in the first quarter. WSU lost four straight Pac 10 games prior to that one. ARIZONA STATE.

Clemson -13 at Duke: Clemson comes off three tough victories (Maryland, NC State and Miami), the last one an overtime thriller against the Hurricane. Duke has lost four straight ACC games but they covered all of them. They have a good shot to stay close here. DUKE.

Connecticut at Georgia Tech -8.5: This is the craziest scheduling spot of the season. Tech is coming off a big win over NC State and have Virginia up next week. Connecticut is playing for a post season bowl bid. The Huskies will be very competitive in this spot. CONNECTICUT.

Tulsa at Louisiana Tech -5.5: Tulsa has failed to win a game on the road this season while giving up an average of 15 points/game. Tech's only loss at home was against a hot UTEP squad. LOUISIANA TECH.

Miami at Virginia -3.5: Because of Miami's woes that last couple of weeks (consecutive losses to North Carolina and Clemson), the Hurricane actually gets more than a field goal in a game they would be favored on a neutral field. That many points is too good to pass up. MIAMI.

Oregon State at Stanford PK: The Beavers gave USC all they could handle last week, although it was in the damp and dank northwest. Nevertheless, the Beavers are finally playing as everyone expected at the season's start. OREGON STATE.

Army at Tulane -6: Tulane last week thrashed Navy 42-10. The also own a tough fought win over Alabama-Birmingham as an 18-point favorite at home. Kind of a no-brainer, isn't it? TULANE.

                                                                         NFL THUMBNAILS

Ravens at Jets +1 1/2 total 33 1/2: These two have met four times since 1994 with the Ravens 4-0 ATS and 3-1 SU. Jets have QB problems and other injures. Raven defense has been just super in their last four games.

Steelers at Browns +4 total 42: The money has shown on the Browns in this game. Pittsburgh is coming off back to back huge games at home, beating the previously undefeated Patriots and Eagles. Steelers won first meeting at home 34-23 as a 6 point favorite.

Texans at Colts -9 1/2 total 53: Texans covered both meetings last year even though they lost both games straight up. Colts are 4-0 SU in this series. Colts are 0-3 ATS with all three games going over in there last three games, winning only one time.

Bears at Titans -5 1/2 total 35 1/2: Bears have won and covered two straight and last week they came back from 14 down to beat the Giants in New York. Tennessee has only two covers in their last seven games.

Buccaneers at Falcons -3 1/2 total 40: Buccaneers are 6-1 SU and ATS against the Falcons in their last seven meetings.. Tampa coming off big win at home against the Chiefs. Atlanta coming off a bye week.

Lions at Jaguars -3 1/2 total 34 1/2: Lions are 0-2 SU and ATS in their last two games with both games going under the total. Jags off a bye week and look to get back to their winning ways after suffering to the Texans two weeks ago. Jags have played 6 unders and 2 overs so far year to date.

Seahawks at Rams PK total 50: Revenge is on the minds of the Seahawks as they lost in OT at home in their first meeting this year 33-27. Rams have lost their last two games with both going over the total.

Chiefs at Saints +3 1/2 total 56 1/2: Kansas City is on big time scoring binge as they are averaging 44 points a game in their last three games. Saints gave up 43 last week in San Diego.

Bengals at Redskins -3 1/2 total 37: Skins beat the Lions last week 17-10 as they continued to score under the 20 point total this year. Skins highest total output this year was 18 against the Cowboys. Bengals playing good ball and are coming off a nice win over the Cowboys 26-3.

Vikings at Packers -4 total 50: Vikes have lost two straight since R Moss went down. Vikings are 5-1 ATS against the Pack in their last six meetings. Green Bay is back on track as they have won and covered three straight with all three going over the total.

Giants at Cardinals +2 1/2 total 38: Arizona got rare win on the road last week when they beat Miami with a late TD 24-23. Cards have played three straight over games. Cards are 5-2 ATS last seven against the Giants. NY blew a 14 point lead at home last week against the Bears.

Panthers at 49ers -1 total 41: The Panthers problem all year has been no offense. They did get 24 last week in a losing cause against the Raiders. Panthers are 8-1 ATS last nine meetings against the 49ers. 49ers are 0-2 SU and ATS in their last two games with both going over the total.

Bills at Patriots -8 1/2 total 37: Pats got back on a new winning streak last week after loss at Pittsburgh the prior week. Bills playing good ball especially in defense. Bills have won and covered their last two ga
