Winning fantasy leagues is always fun, but what about winning $1,000,000?
On August 15 Draft Kings will crown the Fantasy Baseball World Champion at Wynn Las Vegas. Qualifiers and satellites run from now until August 5.
The next qualifier takes place today; entry is $1,000 with a field of 63 players. Winning gets a player a four-night VIP trip to Las Vegas and $1,000 cash for airfare, a $55,500 value.
If $1,000 is a bit too steep, winning a satellite will get you a free $1,000 entry. Satellite entry starts at $.25 up to $33, the more expensive the satellite the smaller the field.
Also on Draft Kings today is a $1 Million Mega Payoff Pitch game where the winner gets $100,000. Entry for that is only $27. If baseball is not your sport, Draft Kings has games for NBA, NHL, PGA, MMA, MLS and NASCAR. For instance, if you like golf Draft Kings is featuring a Millionaire Maker where the winner picks a field in the US Open and can win $1,000,000. Qualifiers for the PGA run until June 17.
Draft Kings also offers free games to get started and try out the formats. Win first place and gain free entry to a real money game.
So in order to get you to the fantasy championship let’s take a look at some players for tomorrow (salaries are from Draft Kings, make sure to check salaries if using FanDuel or any other fantasy sites).
Nolan Arenado, 3B, Col ($5,000): The Rockies slugger has been struggling recently but after an inspiring 4-for-5 with a triple, home run, 4RBI against the Giants – he will start heating up. Word is he made a pit stop at the Domingo Ayala academy. In all seriousness, the kid has too much quality to be in a slump for long, at a reasonable $5K, take a shot on him against the struggling Reds pitcher Michael Lorenzen. Projection: 2-5, HR, 3RBI.
Diamond in the Rough
Alex Colome, SP, TB ($5,600): At such a low pitcher salary at home, Colome should do well against a hot and cold Mariner lineup. The Tampa Bay hurler is a mystery, some games he looks unhittable and sometimes he looks like he belongs in Double A ball. He is 3-1 on the year but that’s deceiving with his 4.81 ERA. With all that said pitching at home against Seattle, he could really push your team to the top of leaderboards saving all that money at the pitching spot. Projection: W, 3ER, 5K.
Yasmany Tomas, 3B/OF, Ari ($3,900): The rookie had a shaky start but has since been on a tear. In his last 10 games Tomas has hit .457 (16-38) with a HR, three doubles and 7 RBI. Most project that the HR power that scouts saw from the Cuban league should start showing now that he is gaining confidence each day. Projection: 3-5, Double, 2RBI.
Rusney Castillo, OF, Bos ($4,400): If he starts Castillo should be able to hit Twins pitcher Mike Pelfrey due to his control issues. The Red Sox outfielder can do it all down in Triple A he hit .293, 2HR, 10RBI, 6SB in only 18 games. The guy has the stuff to be an all-around fantasy star. Projection: 4-5, 3RBI, SB.
