First they can… then they can’t… now they can – play fantasy sports in New York State.
An appeals court has granted a short-term stay to the preliminary injunction issued earlier today by a judge in response to a request by Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, who says daily fantasy sports is gambling and therefore illegal in the state.
According to reports, the stay will allow FanDuel and DraftKings to continue operating until at least Jan. 4, long enough for the end of the regular 17-week NFL season.
The fantasy companies said they would be irreparably harmed if New York forced them to close, even temporarily.
