The Missouri House is advancing a bill to allow daily fantasy sports and exempt the practice from gambling regulations.
The House in a voice vote Tuesday gave the legislation initial approval. Daily fantasy sports sites would need to pay an annual $5,000 registration fee. They would face some additional restrictions but wouldn’t be subject to gambling laws.
DraftKings and the Fantasy Sports Trade Association backed the measure during a committee hearing.
Supporters say playing daily fantasy sports requires skill and isn’t the same as gambling. Opponents dispute that and say the bill is too easy on daily fantasy sports.
The measure needs a second vote of approval to pass the House and move to the Senate.
