USFantasy will start doing business near the end of August or first part of September at about 80 locations around the state, according to company co-founder Vic Salerno.
“We’re hiring people and we have an office,” he said. The goal has always been to be ready for the start of the NFL season.
He told GamingToday he and his partners have been kept busy talking to pari-mutuel officials and tracks across the country, their goal being to stay on top of the constantly evolving state of daily fantasy sports wagering.
Locally, the USFantasy team continues its meeting with the disseminator company that delivers information to racebooks. It’s difficult to be specific at this early point about the number of books in casinos that will be participating since they all have to make their own decisions.
But the company will be up and running with an extensive menu of daily fantasy sports offerings based on a pari-mutuel platform and technology that substitutes human athletes for horses. The company’s customers will be able to use mobile apps.
A promotion offering a $1 million Pick 6 that will require bettors to pick top performers from a list of quarterbacks, wide receivers, running backs and defensive teams will help drive interest.
Salerno says the company continues to track the status of legislation in Pennsylvania. Leading lawmakers there have predicted DFS rules will be part of a legislative package that will get attention in the fall.
New York lawmakers have approved DFS regulations and the legislation needs only the signature of Gov. Andrew Cuomo. The New York deal is a lifeline for an industry so battered that FanDuel and Draft Kings, once bitter rivals, are in merger talks, according to a New York Times report.
