Professional golfer Willy Wilcox is now the first PGA player to officially sign a contract with a fantasy sports site by inking a deal this week with DraftKings, the fantasy sports gambling website. The deal requires Wilcox to appear at some private functions including golf outings.
Players are not allowed to wear gaming company logos, appear in commercials for gaming companies or have endorsement deals with them by order of the PGA.
Wilcox’s agent says he won’t have a DraftKings logo on his bag or apparel, and is in no way “endorsing” the company, reports Golf Digest magazine.
Golf Digest notes that it’s possible the PGA Tour will soon re-examine its rules because all four major sports leagues – the NFL, NBA, MLB, and NHL – already have agreements with either daily fantasy website DraftKings or Fan Duel.
Wilcox, 30, is a Birmingham, Alabama native. He played college golf at University of Alabama at Birmingham and Clayton State University He was a three-time All-American, but has yet to win on the PGA Tour. He has been victorious on the Canadian Tour.
