Reports from Texas indicate the latest effort to legalize for-profit fantasy sports leagues statewide appears to have reached a dead end.
State Rep. Richard Peña Raymond had proposed legislation designating fantasy sports as legal, skill-based games, in direct contradiction to an opinion handed down by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton last year judging fantasy sports to be illegal gambling.
With his own fantasy sports bills unable to gain traction, Raymond succeeded in getting a conference committee dealing with state licensing issues, to include language from his fantasy sports legislation.
However, the fantasy sports legalization language ultimately failed to be part of the final licensing bill.
