The Indiana Gaming Commission last week approved three paid fantasy sports operators for Indiana. State legislators had officially made the activity legal in Indiana in 2016, and agreed to regulate it.
The three operators are DraftKings Inc., FanDuel Inc. and FantasyDraft LLC. All three paid the $50,000 initial licensing fee and went through a background investigation. All three were approved by a unanimous vote.
The commission can now fine companies operating in Indiana without a license. Under the law passed last year, participants must be at least 18 years old to play paid fantasy sports. Lawmakers made clear the activity is not considered gambling, though they handed regulatory authority over it to the Indiana Gaming Commission.
