Another winner for South Point

Michael Gaughan, owner of South Point Casino, loves auto racing, especially off-road, which he is actually quite good at, though these days he’s more of a spectator than a participant. And he must have instilled that love in his son Brendan, who made racing his profession, moving from off-road to two-wheel Trophy Truck class to pavement stock car and finally to NASCAR where he has made 50 premier series starts and is an eight-time winner in the Camping World Truck Series.
Over the years Michael’s love of the sport prompted him to sponsor many races at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, which was built in 1996, as well as race teams led by Brendan. And last week it was announced that South Point has been named title sponsor of the September Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race at the Speedway in a multi-year agreement that makes the casino title sponsor of the South Point 400 beginning in 2018.
The 267-lap race, set for Sunday, Sept. 16, will be the first in the 2018 Cup playoffs.
“Michael Gaughan has been a great friend to Las Vegas Motor Speedway for decades, and we’re infinitely proud to have South Point as a major part of our first Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Playoff race and our inaugural fall tripleheader weekend,” said Chris Powell, Speedway president.
“The South Point 400 will showcase the best drivers in the world at one of the most fan-friendly and dynamic tracks in the country over the course of a weekend that fans will long remember,” Powell added.
“I was there from the beginning,” said Michael, referring to the Speedway, “and it’s a thrill to now have the South Point 400 begin the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs in 2018. Racing has been one of my life’s greatest passions and it’s a dream to be deeply involved with a sport I love.”

IN-GAME WAGERING – the ability to bet on games while they are in progress – seems to be growing in popularity. It was first introduced to Las Vegas sports bettors around eight years ago by CG Technology. A few years later William Hill added the option to its betting menu, followed by others such as Station Casinos and MGM.
STN Sports App:
Now Station Casinos has added the in-play option to their STN Sports mobile app, which is available on both Android and iOS devices.
With this new option, in-play wagering is offered continuously throughout game play, so bettors don’t have to wait for commercials or pauses in the game like they did before with previously offered in-game wagers. Those wagers, by the way, were limited to only about three options during breaks in the action. Now there are around 20 to 40 ways to wager continuously throughout the game without having to wait for pauses in the action.
While watching your favorite teams in football, using in-play you can bet on how the next score will be made, quarter wagering, side total of all quarters on the money-line, and win by what margin. When baseball returns, you will be able to bet on innings or aspects such as who scores next, strikeouts by a pitcher, or number of hits in an inning.
These are just a few examples of the numerous bets being offered. Plus there are plenty of options for less-bet sports like tennis, soccer and hockey.
We are not as tech savvy as some of the younger crowd, but we have found most of the betting apps, including Station’s, pretty easy to operate. And these new options give us a chance to have some extra fun when watching a game with friends. Check it out – we think you’ll like it.
See you around town.
