The Stanley Cup made a visit to the Palms as part of the festivities for next week’s NHL Awards night.
The Cup arrived on property at 12:30 am Friday as the casino resort host the champion Los Angeles Kings this weekend. L.A. won its first-ever Stanley Cup earlier in the week, defeating the New Jersey Devils in five games.
The NHL Awards Night, hockey’s version of the Oscars, moved to Las Vegas from Toronto several years ago. Wynn Las Vegas hosts the Awards, which will be televised nationally this coming Wednesday on the NBC Sports Network (Cox cable ch 38).
Actor Ray Liotta, a favorite in Las Vegas for his portrayal of the late mobster turned informant Henry Hill in the 1990 movie classic Goodfellas, will be one of the presenters at the Encore Theater. Liotta will be among the presenters, which also include Kevin Connolly, Matthew Perry, Vince Vaughn and ESPN’s Erin Andrews.
Among the awards presented will be the Vezina Trophy for the NHL’s top goalie. Jonathan Quick of Kings is a leading candidate to win the Vezina.
