With a win at Carolina, the Vegas Golden Knights now have the most points in the NHL. Their record sits 31-11-4 (66 points) putting them ahead of the Tampa Bay Lightning (65 points), another team the Knights beat on last week’s road trip.
Vegas returns home having survived a four-game road trip going 2-2, with wins over Tampa and Carolina but falling to Florida and Nashville. Now the Knights return home for a two-game home stand this week, battling the Columbus Blue Jackets Tuesday and the New York Islanders on Thursday.
Columbus at Vegas
PROJECTED LINE: BLUE JACKETS +135, KNIGHTS -155
For the first time this season Columbus and Vegas do battle, with the Knights hosting the Jackets at T-Mobile Arena. Columbus (26-18-13, 55 points) has struggled a little as of late, only winning four of 10 on the road.
Scoring goals has been the main catalyst for the Blue Jackets’ troubles, sitting 28th in the league with 2.6 per game. They have been able to keep it together, bouncing in and out of the Top 10 in defense allowing 2.7 Goals Against.
Vegas meanwhile have been solid on both sides of the puck, ranking 3rd in scoring goals and 6th in goals against. On paper it looks as though Vegas should roll this team, but Columbus coach John Tortorella isn’t the easiest out first game of the year.
I don’t really think the Jackets will win but I think they will commit defensively to try and grind out the win. UNDER
NY Islanders at Vegas
PROJECTED LINE: ISLANDERS +145/KNIGHTS -165
The Islanders have been one of the most exciting teams to watch in the NHL. Why? Because they score lots of goals and allow lots of goals, New York sits 2nd in the league in putting the puck in the net and 31st in the league in watching it go into theirs.
Back in October the Knights got rolled in New York 6-3. Knights Coach Gerard Gallant will remember the beating this offense gave out and I think he focuses on the defense aspects of the game. Because of that angle, not only do the Knights win, let’s get greedy with the Puck Line. KNIGHTS -1.5
