The fact that they’re playing the best coach and quarterback to ever play the game? Maybe the nerves just get to them when the game is on the line. Maybe the Patriots just have the man upstairs on their side.
I’m not quite sure what it is. All I know is weird, negative things seem to happen to Patriot opponents late in games. Remember the tuck rule game with the Raiders that went in Brady’s favor and eventually led to a Super Bowl win? That’s when it all started.
Then Pete Carroll went a little crazy a couple Super Bowls ago when all he had to do was hand the ball off to Marshawn Lynch to beat the Pats and win his second consecutive Lombardi Trophy. But no, he had to try a little trickery and toss a surprise pass that ended up in Malcolm Butler’s mitts.
I was reminded again of coaches and players losing their minds against the Pats last Sunday when the Steelers, at the very least, should have tied the game in the final seconds with a field goal. Instead, whether it was attempted trickery, a miscommunicated play call or just divine intervention, Big Ben ran a clocked or a fake clock play that was picked off in the end zone.
Another case of Belichick and Brady getting inside the minds of the opponents before and during the game. Either that, or God does indeed wear a Patriots jersey.
