Herschel Walker’s debut MMA fight was announced last week against Greg Nagy for Jan. 30, 2010 in Strikeforce: Miami.

Walker, best known as the 1982 Heisman Trophy winner and two-time Pro Bowl competitor, has been training intensely for his first MMA fight for the past two months in San Jose, California and plans to donate his entire purse to charity.

This week, UFC will hold a press conference with Brock Lesnar and Dana White to discuss the future of the Heavy Weight Title. Many speculate that Lesnar will return to fight against the winner of the Frank Mir vs. Shane Carwin battle. Lesnar, current UFC Heavy Weight champ, had to cancel several fights in 2009 due to an unknown illness.

“UFC 109: Relentless” will be taking over Las Vegas, Nev., with local MMA fighter, Randy Couture “The Natural” fighting Mark “The Hammer” Coleman. Also announced -- welterweight, Mike Swick to replace injured teammate, Josh Koscheck, against Paulo Thiago.

In local news, Tuff-N-Uff: MTX Fight Night III held at the Riveria Hotel & Casino, dominated with a card featuring a family of local UFC legends. The sold out event featured Ryan Couture, son of Randy Couture, and Larry Mir, cousin of Frank Mir. Both amateur fighters had first round wins. Tuff-N-Uff’s next event will be at the Orleans Hotel & Casino on Feb. 26.

The MMA world lost a pivotal figure in fight history. Bob Shamrock, adoptive father to Ken and Frank Shamrock, passed away Thursday at the age of 68 after a long battle with different health complications due to diabetes. Shamrock opened his home in Susanville, Calif. to many troubled youths and coached them with MMA training, thus producing some of the worlds most noted fighters.
