UFC Bantamweight Champion TJ Dillashaw takes on former champion Renan Barao this Saturday free on FOX. Dillashaw defeated Barao by fifth round TKO as a 7/1 underdog. Underdogs like Dillashaw can come from anywhere including locally.
If you are looking for a reasonably priced night of MMA action check out Tuff-N-Uff “Mayhem in Mesquite VII” on Aug. 22 at the CasaBlanca Resort. Maybe the next up and coming fighter that will someday shock the UFC world with a Dillashaw-sized upset will fight. Oh, by the way, that’s where Ronda Rousey started her career. Nineteen Tuff-N-Uff alumni have made it to the UFC so be sure to check it out.
For the ladies who read my column, of which I am sure there are thousands, Tuff-N-Uff is hosting a ring girl competition. Winners get to be one of three ring girls and receive a cash prize. To enter check out http://959thehawk.com/contests/ring-girl-competition/
Back to UFC on FOX, when it comes to the main event I am torn. I rewatched the first fight; Dillashaw looked like the better fighter and the replay showed Barao admitting to his corner he can’t do anything. Rumors say Barao was pressured to fight by UFC without proper training, and also he was sick on fight night.
Barao was a -1100 favorite the first time and now he’s +180 or $5,100 on Kountermove. Too much of a change. I will ride with Barao and see if Dillashaw is actually as great as he thinks he is.
Barao ($5,100): If Barao is truly back and Dillashaw just had the best night of his career, expect something special from “The Baron.” If he takes back his title he will earn you some much needed fantasy points. Projection: SUB2.
Diamonds in Rough
Paul Felder ($4,600): It’s a very even FOX card and it is reflected in the betting lines as only three favorites are over -200 out of 12 fights. Felder is my kind of diamond, if he wins it’s probably a crushing knockout. “The Irish Dragon” is 10-0 with 7KOs. Jamie Varner stopped Edson Barboza on strikes and Felder should do the same. Projection: KO1.
Bryan Caraway ($4,700): At 4-2 in the UFC, Caraway has not been able to build any type of traction. He is matched up against Eddie Wineland, who has been in the ring with better fighters than Caraway. However, Wineland took a vicious KO loss to Johnny Eduardo and I am not sure he will bounce back so quickly. Projection: KO3.
