Holm's KO of Rousey a complete shocker

Ronda Rousey, the former UFC champ, got her butt kicked last Saturday night by Holly Holm (10-0) in Melbourne, Australia. In a year where two women were a huge focus, both Serena Williams going for the Grand Slam and Rousey, whose name was being tossed around with Floyd Mayweather, each lost in huge upsets.

Rousey was exposed as a bully, which she has been against women with no chance, but it was a different story against Holm – a longshot at 14/1 with probably only her family expecting victory. No one in the media thought she could win. Well, she did the unexpected and the former champ was humbled.

Rousey was a lump in the ring and her face looked like hamburger meat. Plenty of people tuned in to watch Rousey as she refused to touch gloves with Holm before the fight. Being gracious is hard in that business and unfortunately it looks like Rousey was starting to believe her own hype. She ended up in the hospital after the fight. I don’t remember too many fights where the undefeated champ got beat as badly as Rousey.

There is talk of a rematch, but if Rousey expects to win, she will need to try a different tactic than lunging with her hands down. It was all about style and I heard someone say Holm was like Buster Douglas beating Mike Tyson.

Rousey also looked unprepared and took her opponent too lightly. Hopefully Rousey was humbled because if she has one more loss, she will be done in the ring. She built the franchise and she deserves the credit, but hopefully did some serious thinking in the hospital about her future because the fight game might not be in it.
