Take a long shot like Creator for Kentucky Derby

Let me use this space to talk a little bit about this coming weekend. I am not a horse guy per se, part of it comes from dealing with horse bettors on a regular basis and hearing the same old complaints over and over.
I do however think going to the track is a very cool environment and to see these beautiful animals up close makes one really respect the craft of the horse racing world.
I took my wife and young son to Los Alamitos last summer during their throughbred run and it was a fun experience. Paid for lunch with my winnings and left with a little extra coin in my pocket. What’s not to like about that?
The Kentucky Derby, for me, is a great event; it gets everyone excited about the sport and has a great American pastime tradition to it.
So for the first time ever I will give out who I think wins the Kentucky Derby as well as a Trifecta to play.
Take Creator to win the Derby and key with Exaggerator, Brody’s Cause, Destin, Danzing Candy in a trifecta – $1 trifecta with Creator on top and $1 trifecta with Creator second and the rest in the 1st and 3rd spot – a total of $24 for two tickets.
Also there is a huge boxing match this Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena – the first boxing card at the new arena – as Canelo Alvarez defends the Middleweight Championship against Amir Khan.
Cubs-Pirates OVER 6.5: Yes, I know Jake Arrieta is on the mound, but I believe one way or another this game goes over. I think Pittsburgh can at least get to him for two runs or battle with the Cubs ace making him miss the last crucial innings due to pitch count.
Diamondbacks-Marlins OVER 8: Two teams that could get into a hitting dual with the type of bats in the lineup. I feel like this ‘Backs lineup is due for a huge breakout in the next few weeks. Meanwhile Miami has averaged almost six runs in their last four games.
Dodgers-Rays OVER 7.5: Interleague games aren’t my favorite to bet but I get the vibe these two teams get after it. L.A. heads out to Tampa with their offense struggling; I think they push this one over themselves.
UEFA Champions League, Semifinals Leg 2, Real Madrid-Manchester City OVER 2.5: After a scoreless first leg, look for someone to break free. I think it’s a 2-1 game at the absolute worst. Man City has never been this far and with a 0-0 first game, they should go for broke for departing Manager Manuel Pellegrini. Oh, and Real Madrid has Cristiano Rondaldo, he won’t go down without a fight and is capable of dominating.
UFC Fight Night 87, Overreem-Arlovski OVER 1.5: I realize these guys both throw hammers, and both of them have questionable chins at best. But I believe they will be more cautious and wait for the right moment. The winner is probably next up for a title fight, unless Cain is finally ready.
